Dear @farcaster,
My wife is a high school teacher, and this year her class is so rowdy that the students keep a leaderboard tracking who has been kicked out the most. Recently, she introduced a new rule: if you get in trouble, your punishment is to sit quietly and untangle a massive, knotted ball of yarn.
I used to gladly untangle yarn for her at home because I genuinely enjoyed the problem-solving challenge. But now that I know she officially uses it as a disciplinary tool, I am questioning everything. Was she tasking me with this as a punishment all along? Was I secretly annoying her beforehand? I can't recognize a pattern, and I'm starting to wonder if I've been serving detention in my own living room.
