i would strongly encourage anyone picking an operating system to use a widely supported version of Linux

debian, ubuntu, nix, really not a lot of bad options - i try to choose a distro with a 3yr (LTS) support window, double-digit percentage share of stack overflow answers, millions of other users, and a billion dollar team behind it... picking the "lone cowboy" distro is a very common mistake most Linux adopters make 1 time and learn from the hard way

regardless of what you choose, if you want a tiling WM or a sleek skin, claude will do that for you, you can even say "let's look at omarchy and adopt the color scheme"

i do not advise finding a strangers dotfiles repo and installing all their vim plug-ins etc; this is likely to be VERY BRITTLE (i like my desktop to continue working for years later) and also VERY CONFUSING as you learn a bunch of "omarchy keybindings" that aren't portable to vanilla configs... it's always better choosing plug-ins and config tweaks selectively as you actually need them
